ICSHGES 2009, Conference on the Italian Riviera

The Inaugural International Conference on Sustainability, Human Geography and Environmental Studies (ICSHGES 2009) aims to bring together researchers, scientists, engineers and scholarly students to exchange and share their experiences, novel ideas and research results regarding all aspects of sustainability, human geography and environmental studies and discuss the practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted during such experimentation.


The conference is divided into three themes:

▪ Theme 1: Sustainability related research and statistics

▪ Theme 2: Human geography and cultural studies

▪ Theme 3: Environmental studies and ecologically based research


Presentation Types


Call for Papers

Author(s) should first submit an abstract (200-300 words) and, if accepted, continue with the processing of the full text paper submission. All full text paper submissions will only be considered in the TEMPLATE format (see Manuscript Submission for Authors under PCS Publishing, Co.). Full text papers will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to conference, contributions, and readability.  Full text paper submissions will be chosen based on technical merit, interest, applicability, and how well they fit a coherent and balanced technical program. The accepted full text papers will be published in the refereed conference booklet proceedings.


Prospective authors are kindly invited to submit full text papers including results, tables, figures and references as par with the full text manuscripts (in .docx or .doc) TEMPLATE format only. Conference papers are to be submitted via email directly to the Polo Center of Sustainability. See Manuscript Submission for Authors under PCS Publishing, Co. section of this website for the paper submission process.


Proceedings and Participants

Researchers are cordially invited to submit a paper and/or a proposal to organise a workshop and actively participate in this conference. Proposals are invited for workshops to be affiliated with the conference scope and topics. The conference workshops provide a challenging forum and vibrant opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research positions, original research results and practical development experiences on specific new challenges and emerging issues. The workshop topics should be focused so that the Participants can benefit from interaction with each other and the cohesiveness of the topics. The refereed conference proceedings will be published prior to the conference in both hard copy book and CD-ROM, and distributed to all registered participants at the conference.


For the inaugural ICSHGES 2009, there is an opportunity for all authors to have their papers published in one of the journal options linked with the conference. There will be special issue journals released by the International Journal of Sustainability Science and Studies by PCS Publishing, Co. This journal issue will be made from selected submitted papers to the ICSHGES 2009; the selection will be carried out during the review process as well as at the conference presentation stage. Submitted papers must not be under consideration by any other journal or publication. The final decision will be made based on peer review reports by the conference editors jointly.


Authors that submit a full text paper to the ICSHGES 2009 that are not selected for the above Journal Issue maybe pushed or asked to have there paper published in the International Journal of Human Geography and Environmental Studies; this journal is also published by PCS Publishing, Co. and can be found on this website. The selection for will be carried out during the review process as well as at the conference presentation stage. Submitted papers must not be under consideration by any other journal or publication. The final decision will be made based on peer review reports by the conference editors jointly.
